Ross grew up amidst the tempting tastes, smells and sounds of an active California kitchen, where his grandmother took an active part in introducing him to the joys of cooking. He learned the basics of Armenian cuisine by the age of 10 and, with five growing boys, the Allen home provided no shortage of opportunities for Ross to perfect those basics and to attempt more 'experimental' cuisines!

Early on in his career, Ross worked in California restaurant kitchens where he merged his passion for cooking great food with the disciplines required in high pressure commercial settings. Formal instruction followed as he obtained specialties in French, Italian, Cajun/Creole cuisines from schools in San Francisco, Paris and New Orleans. But his greatest teacher has been his own senses and a never ending desire to travel and experiment. He's developed a keen sense for what tastes, smells and

feels good; and yet he has never forgotten the challenges the home cook faces when it comes to drawing family and friends around the table and spending time with them.

Coming from a large family, Ross has always had a desire to be inclusive. Whether you've been invited over for dinner at his home or you attend one of his workshops, you are encouraged to participate in the event from the beginning.

Although he no longer makes a living behind a restaurant stove, Ross' love for the culinary arts and his gift of hospitality are greater than ever. He continues to share his passion for cooking and an understanding of the miracles that food can produce in our daily lives through a series of culinary programs at Feast Vancouver.

Ross and his wife Carlene currently make their home in Vancouver, BC.
