"Dinner "sessions" with Ross and his wife have always been a feast for the senses. Just stepping over the threshold means exchanging the dreary twilight of a cold, wet Vancouver evening for an atmosphere infused with warmth and welcome. Then begins my favourite part; working together to prepare the meal. Ross always makes you feel like the more cooks the merrier and there is always an opportunity to learn. There is such fun in rolling up your sleeves to wash and chop and sauté and garnish and sip and taste that stimulates more than any perfect appetizer presented on a dainty tray. I have learned a lot in that kitchen and I'm not just talking recipes. There is a sense of fun and camaraderie in their kitchen, and a sense of accomplishment when the food is ready. But more than that, when we all sit down to eat, there is a sense of togetherness that can't be infused into the tastiest meal or the most artful presentation. There is no need for small talk and no awkward silences. There is no ice to break. We simply enjoy each other's company, well seasoned with food and laughter."
